While most of Singapore sleeps soundly after midnight, one Geylang resident finds himself trapped in a nightly battle against relentless noise disturbances.
A frustrated tenant has taken to Reddit to share his ongoing struggle with loud music and rowdy behavior plaguing his neighborhood well past midnight. The user, Obsessionmachine, posted a video on Saturday (June 7) capturing the disruptive sounds coming from Crystal Mansions, the estate across from his rented apartment.
"This is happening at 1am," the distressed resident wrote. "I can't even locate where exactly the music is coming from. The police couldn't help either. I guess this will be my reality for the next year and a half until my lease ends."
The Community Responds
The Reddit post sparked numerous suggestions from fellow netizens trying to help solve this urban dilemma:
One advised contacting Jalan Besar's Member of Parliament while emphasizing existing noise control regulations: "You have every right to peaceful nights - don't give up on finding a solution."
Another shared their own experience with noisy neighbors and recommended reaching out to the building's management (MCST).
A practical suggestion involved using white noise machines, though Obsessionmachine noted it proved ineffective against such extreme volume levels.
The Legal Perspective on Noise Pollution
Official guidelines clearly state that residents should observe quiet hours between 10:30pm and 7am. For persistent disturbances:
Attempt neighborly discussion first
Seek assistance from grassroots leaders if needed
Consider formal mediation through Community Mediation Centre As last resort pursue legal action via Community Disputes Resolution Tribunal
